Leadership Winnipeg Class of 2024-2025
Attending Leadership Winnipeg has been an incredibly impactful experience. The sessions, especially the one with Ash from Mondetta, were eye-opening and offered a fresh take on what leadership really means today. It’s clear that true leadership goes beyond just focusing on company growth and profits; it’s about putting people first and redefining success to include more than just financial gains.
One big takeaway was Ash’s unique approach to success. They focus on sharing success with their employees, giving them ownership in different ways, and looking beyond just financial results. They measure success by the positive impact their business has on people, communities, and the environment. This “people-first” strategy is something I believe more companies should embrace. To me, real leadership is about the difference we make in the communities around us, not just the money we make. We should all be asking: What’s our total impact? How are we supporting our employees, our customers, our communities, and the planet?
The day also included some great small-group discussions where I got to talk with inspiring leaders like Gail Asper. Even with their accomplishments, they shared their own struggles with self-doubt—a reminder that “imposter syndrome” hits everyone, even those we consider successful. It’s both surprising and comforting to see that even leaders with big wins still question themselves at times. Their vulnerability actually makes them more inspiring. Leadership isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about showing up, learning, and leading by example. It’s a reminder that being a leader doesn’t mean you have it all figured out. Instead, it means being willing to keep moving forward, knowing that the journey matters just as much as the outcome.
The most important lesson I took away is that leadership isn’t about a long list of accomplishments. It’s about having the courage to show up, tackle challenges, and give your best because you know it matters. Even when you don’t feel fully prepared, true leaders step forward, look for solutions, and make things happen. This kind of leadership leaves a lasting impact.
As the day ended, I felt a renewed appreciation for Leadership Winnipeg’s approach. It’s not just about career growth; it’s about aligning our values with the changes we want to see in the world. Each session adds to my understanding, and I’m excited to keep showing up, ready to learn and grow with other passionate leaders. Leadership Winnipeg has been a transformative experience, and I look forward to the journey ahead.
