ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Richard Mahé is currently Senior Planner for the City of Winnipeg’s Downtown and Neighbourhood Main Streets Branch, and is Project Manager for CentrePlan 2050. He has been with the City for 9 years. Prior to joining the City, Richard was Senior Planner and Partner at Lombard North Group, where he worked on Waterford Green, a pedestrian-friendly community in northwest Winnipeg. As a Senior Planner at the City, Richard has developed guidelines for residential infill development to address demand for new housing while preserving neighbourhood quality, character and liveability. He is currently convening multiple municipal departments and a consultant team to produce CentrePlan 2050, which will guide municipal investment and development in Downtown Winnipeg. CentrePlan 2050 will also include functional design for bike lanes Downtown, streetscape design standards, and an update to the Urban Design Guidelines for Downtown Winnipeg.

Karin Kliewer is a Planner with the City of Winnipeg’s Downtown and Neighbourhood Main Streets Branch, and has been at the City of Winnipeg for nine years. Her time at the City includes five years in policy development, research, and plan implementation and four in a Downtown-specific capacity. She also led the creation of the Winnipeg Food Council and is currently their Public Service Liaison. Karin’s undergraduate degrees in Conflict Resolution and International Development studies set the groundwork for her City Planning degree, which focused on multi-sectoral collaboration to inspire change. Throughout the years, Karin has worked in Winnipeg and abroad in both the public and non-profit sectors, in research, cross-sector coordination, project planning, community engagement design, and facilitation capacities. Currently, her schedule is focused on shaping CentrePlan 2050, which will help create the Downtown we want to see in the future.
