Managing Life’s Load– Lessons from High Performance Sport
Host: Matt Johnston, Director of Wellness, Johnston Group
Facilitator: Donna Harris, Coach, researcher, and Wellness Consultant, Johnston Group

 SESSION OVERVIEW:

All of us carry a daily “life load,” and that load is composed of physical elements, emotional elements and, right now, the stress of living through a pandemic. Sometimes our load is high, and that is ok; we can handle high loads – if they don’t last forever! The key is to gain an awareness of your load, what makes it high, and what makes it low so you can manage it and be at your best.

Hosted by Matt Johnston, Director of Wellness at Johnston Group, this session will start with a presentation from Donna Harris, Coach and Wellness Consultant at Johnston Group, who will share the outcomes from her thesis while a graduate student at U of M, Passion and the Expert Coach: Impact on Life and Performance. Her in-depth look into the lives of elite coaches and their partners (i.e., World and Olympic/Paralympic coaches) has drawn outcomes that lend insight into the impact leadership roles can have on an individual, their partner and their family. Donna will facilitate the group through a short exercise to help participants gain awareness of their life load, the elements that contribute to it and how that load impacts them – at work, their personal lives and their engagement in self-care. We’ll then discuss the routines and support systems that we all need around us.
