ABOUT EVENT:
Disability Justice and Inclusion: CODE Workshop
Thursday, October 19, 2023 | 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Hosted on Zoom
Keynote Speaker: Lori Hurtig, Program/Training Coordinator at Reaching E-Quality Services (REES)
This presentation is a focus on disability and how to accommodate people with disabilities or health conditions into the workplace respectfully. There is no easy “tool kit” to becoming an inclusive work environment – but the key factor begins with respect and continues with a strong desire on the part of the employer and the part of the employee to make it work. Sometimes this may require regularly assessing to determine if modifications are required. This presentation focuses on the larger and smaller aspects of creating that working environment that is welcoming of everyone who is qualified. Inclusivity includes language, it includes physical space, it includes technology, furnishings, communication, work structures, work culture, work hours, and much more.
Key points you will learn:
- What barriers still exist that prevent full inclusion
- How has society evolved to promote a more inclusive environment
- What is important when developing an accommodation plan
- Why is language so important
