As the workforce evolves, businesses must adapt to effectively recruit and retain diverse talent. This workshop will focus on strategies for recruiting and retaining newcomers, persons with disabilities, and Indigenous persons. ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS


Ashley Dunlop recently joined the Economic Development Winnipeg team as Director of Talent & Workforce Development, where she leads a strong team dedicated to attracting and retaining talent in Winnipeg and collaborating with like-minded agencies and organizations to strengthen the talent pipeline. Prior to working at EDW, Ashley held positions as Director of Student Recruitment, Admissions, and International, Immigrant & Refugee Student Services at The University of Winnipeg. Overseeing specialized services for international and newcomer student cohorts gave her a keen sense of the challenges of relocation, onboarding and the importance of community-building.

 


 

Kara Huberdeau is a Talent Acquisition Specialist at St. Amant, passionate about diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

 


Jennefer Nepinak B.A., LL.B, ICD.D. Vice President Strategic Partnerships and Reconciliation Jennefer is Anishinaabe from Treaty 4 territory and a citizen of the Minegozhiibe Anishinaabe Nation (Pine Creek First Nation). Fluent in Ojibwe and a strong and passionate leader firmly rooted in the Indigenous community, Jennefer’s approach works to ensure that Indigenous ways of knowing and being are recognized and incorporated in all that she does. Jennefer is an experienced lawyer and advisor and prior to her current role, she served as the Associate Vice President, Indigenous Engagement at the University of Winnipeg. She has over 25 years of political government and business experience and is skilled at initiating collaborative processes that involve numerous cross-sector partners and stakeholders. Her past roles include Senior Advisor, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Executive Director of the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba. She has also held several leadership positions with both federal and provincial government departments, First Nations Governments, and in-house counsel for the West Region Tribal Council. Jennefer has been recently appointed to the Manitoba Government Transition Advisory Committee (2023) and Premier’s Business and Jobs Council. She is also very immersed in the community at large and sits on various boards and committees.

 



Pearl Kavanagh-Stoesz
is a human resource professional in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.

 



Wynne Au currently serving as the Talent Program Manager at YES! Winnipeg, part of Economic Development Winnipeg (EDW), Wynne manages special multimillion-dollar projects that drive capital investment, business expansion, and job creation in Winnipeg.

Notable projects include the $12.5 million Retrain Manitoba program, which helped over 1,300 Manitoba businesses and 18,000+ employees access essential training, and the Work in Manitoba job portal, a Government of Manitoba initiative. This innovative recruitment platform connects Manitoba employers with qualified job seekers locally, domestically, and internationally, boasting over 1,600 employers and 62,000 job seekers.

With over 10 years of experience in progressively senior roles and a background in human resource management and marketing, Wynne combines a passion for people with strong leadership, relationship-building, and project management skills. Wynne is dedicated to supporting workforce development, talent attraction, and retention.

Known for maintaining composure and positivity in the face of adversity, Wynne fosters team collaboration and encourages innovative solutions. Effective communication and an ability to identify others’ unique skills come naturally, making Wynne a natural Advisor and Quartermaster in escape room games. By day, Wynne is a business developer; by night, a food writer for Tourism Winnipeg’s Peg City Grub.
