Toasting Winnipeg is a new breakfast series that celebrates innovative, original and inspiring business stories in our city.  Our goal is to shine light and share stories from our membership proving business success is possible, especially in Winnipeg.

About Ida Albo, Owner of Ten Spa and Yoga Public

Ida Albo holds a Masters in Economics from Queens University. She worked as an economist for the Department of Finance in Ottawa for two years and returned to Winnipeg in 1984. For the past 29 years, Ida has owned a number of businesses in Winnipeg, which currently include the Fort Garry Hotel, Ten Spa and most recently Yoga Public.

Ida has served and continues to serve in various capacities on a number of non-profit boards including Center Venture (Chair and Emeritus), Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. Ida is currently vice-chair of the Pan Am Clinic Foundation and sponsorship chair of the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

Ida is the recipient of several awards and distinctions: Order of Canada Honour (2016), Bnai Brith Award (2012), Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) and Variety International Humanitarian of the Year (2010).

Hijab graduated in 2002 from The University of Nottingham from the School of the Built Environment with a Masters in Climatic Responsive Building – Specializing in Zero Energy Buildings both at a Micro and Macro level.

Hijab Mitra’s aim to attain excellence in the construction of Green Buildings will contribute to a sustainable and efficient built environment. Hijab Mitra is committed to designing high value, high impact, innovative and technically proficient buildings.

Hijab’s primary focus is to enhance community centered sustainable architecture, giving life to community voices and translating them to built form.

Hijab Mitra founded Mistecture in 2011 to facilitate the introduction of new approaches to sustainability and community-centred architecture. Hijab Mitra is a leader in architecture, urban design and sustainable technologies. Hijab’s biggest strength is working with large communities to maximize their potential and positively impact the surrounding neighbourhoods. Mistecture is particularly noted for its innovative work in green issues and sustainability, and collaborates with leading experts from around the world.

Hijab Mitra moved to Winnipeg in 2005 and since then has had many successes. Hijab’s most recent projects include a 24-storey luxury condo building, a conversion of a heritage building into a mixed-use educational and housing hub, and Marie Rose Place successful transitional housing for some of our community’s most susceptible that is positively impacting the neighbourhood culture.
