Toasting Winnipeg is a breakfast series that celebrates innovative, original and inspiring stories in our city.
Something is different about Winnipeg’s Exchange District. The historic character, lively festivals and new retail and dining options easily makes it Winnipeg’s place to be. The new buzz around the exchange can be linked to the fact more and more entrepreneurs are setting up shop in the national historic site.
Join us at our next Toasting Winnipeg, hear their stories and learn more about:
– How to balance your priorities when running more than one business
– Finding the right audience for your unique product or service
– What resources you need to grow your multiple businesses
CLINTON SKIBITZKY, CO-OWNER OF ACROSS THE BOARD
Clinton Skibitzky and his business partner Olaf Pyttlik, have developed the bad habit of turning their hobbies and passions into businesses.
Starting with an interest in audio recording and music that developed in university, Clinton opened DACAPO Productions in 1998. DACAPO is now a creative audio production company that does international audio production work for film television and computer gaming with companies such as Lego, Disney, Twentieth Century Fox and Netflix in Canada, the USA, France, South Africa, South Korea, Germany, Russia and Japan.
More recently, Clinton and his business partner have taken their love of board games and food and opened Across the Board Game Café in Winnipeg’s exchange district. Across the Board is the perfect antithesis to our electronic obsession, and guests spend time interacting face to face, assisted by our game experts who recommend board games from our library of more than 1000, and give customers an overview of how to play them.
Since opening in spring of 2014, Across the Board has been warmly received by Winnipeggers. Across the Board currently draws more than 35,000 people downtown each year to socialize, eat, drink and play board games together. Success as a downtown attraction was acknowledged by the Exchange District Biz, when they awarded us the Exchange District Award of Distinction for Best Destination Location in the very first year of our operations.
After almost two and half years at Albert Street, Across the Board will be moving to a newly renovated restaurant on the first floor of the Crocus Building at 211 Bannatyne in December of 2016, where it will have a full kitchen and seating for more than 130 patrons. It will be equipped to handle group events, facilitate corporate team building activities, and be a great place for large and small social gatherings.
