Angela Mathieson
President and CEO, CentreVenture Development Corporation
Combining an undergraduate degree in design, with a graduate degree in city planning and a passion for her community, Angela Mathieson has had a 15-plus year career working at the forefront of urban development issues in Winnipeg. Her approach to forging partnerships amongst the public, private and NGO sectors has brought renewed life and vitality to our capital city’s urban landscape.
As Assistant Deputy Minister Urban Strategic Initiatives in the provincial department of Intergovernmental Affairs, Angela was responsible for urban revitalization programs and financial support to the City of Winnipeg. Her development of legislative and fiscal policies such as Manitoba’s Tax Increment Financing law has enabled demand and supply side incentives for downtown housing, the creation of the SHED, and infrastructure support for the Convention Centre, CentrePort and the new Stadium.
In 2006 she was appointed Secretary to Cabinet for Community and Economic Development and senior advisor to Premier Gary Doer, leading the provincial public sector in the implementation of major community, business development, and intergovernmental initiatives, including the formation of Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the return of the Winnipeg Jets.
Before joining CentreVenture as the President and CEO in January of 2015, Angela spent three years running a successful private consulting practice focused on the formulation of public-private-partnerships. She sees a bright future for downtown Winnipeg, built on a fundamental belief that a strong economy requires a vibrant city core.
