JCI Winnipeg has a siginificant involvement in this signature event.
JCI Winnipeg hosts the Santa Workshop for inncer-city children at the U of W where they can meet Santa, play games and do some crafts. Food Fare generously donates food items for lunch for both the children and their parents. This portion of the day kicks off at 12:30pm and is done by RSVP from various community groups and schools in the area.
Starting at 4:00pm, we host a block party in front of the University of Winnipeg. We play street hockey with the children on Portage Avenue and will sell hot chocolate and rice krispie treats – a fun way to get the kids excited for the parade!
Finally, the parade starts at 5:00pm. We clear the streets, and help Santa make his way down Portage Avenue as JCI WInnipeg has THE float that carries the man in red down Portage Avenue – a jam-packed day full of fun for the whole family!
Portage Avenue between Balmoral to Good is where the street hockey kicks off - there will be a few sticks available, but feel free to bring your own! Once the parade starts at 5pm, we'll be clearing the street to watch the floats go by.
