Winnipeg has been named a top travel destination by National Geographic Traveler, Lonely Planet and TIME. In 2023, our city attracted approximately 4.2 million visitors, resulting in an estimated $1.1 billion spent on tourism.

In January, we’ll welcome a panel of Winnipeg tourism leaders to share lessons learned post-pandemic and reflect on the future of tourism here in our city.

ABOUT THE PANELISTS

Angela Cassie is a strategic and inspiring arts, culture and tourism executive who has served as Travel Manitoba’s Chief Operating Officer since June 2023. Angela’s previous roles have included leading the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa as its Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, having joined the National Gallery as Chief Strategy and Inclusion Officer. Angela served as Senior Vice President, Program, Exhibitions and Public Affairs for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and was part of the executive team which led the inaugural activities for the Museum’s historic opening in 2014. Angela began her career in communications and executive services with the Department of Canadian Heritage.

Her extensive experience in strategic planning, communications and marketing, programming, risk management, leadership development and coaching, government and stakeholder relations and leading teams to achieve corporate goals in government and the non-profit sector have been a tremendous asset to Travel Manitoba.

She was recognized as one of 100 Accomplished Black Women in Canada in 2024 and as one of 250 emerging Canadian leaders chosen as part of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference in 2022. Angela was honoured at the 2017 National Black Canadians Summit for her work in the promotion of human rights.

Angela is an active volunteer in her community and most recently served as President of the Board of Société de la Francophonie Manitobaine. She was previously a member of the Canadian Tourism Commission’s (now Destination Canada) Youth Travel Advisory Council.

Angela holds a BA from the University of Winnipeg and completed an Executive Development program (mini MBA) from McGill University’s Executive Institute. 


Former Chief Dennis Meeches served on Long Plain Council for 26 years. Under his leadership, LPFN has garnered national attention for its governance and corporate vision. 

Dennis was instrumental in the government and economic growth of LPFN and Treaty One Nation. As the Treaty 1 Spoke-person, his priority was the creation of a joint reserve at Naawi-Oodena, formerly known as Kapyong.

At present, he is with the following organizations and companies:

  • Indigenous Leadership Development Institute Board Member

Dennis is a horse rancher, recording artist and is known throughout the powwow trail as an old-style grass dancer & singer.


For over 25 years Kenny Boyce has been the Manager of Film and Special Events for the City of Winnipeg. Kenny has a close working relationship with all the key players in government, local production companies, professional associations, training institutes and Hollywood studios. Kenny has earned his reputation as a highly effective problem solver with an extensive history of leadership and positive contributions to our community. Kenny is the City of Winnipeg’s lead for all major cultural, sport and significant events. Some events of note: – 4 Royal visits – Grey Cup – Juno’s – World police games – Pan Am games Kenny is a Special Constable City of Winnipeg and a former board of Director Winnipeg blue bombers. Kenny Boyce has won the Queens Platinum diamond and gold jubilee awards.
