My work deals with the idea of home and a sense of belonging. While a lot of my art takes on the form of maps, this series of new prints consists of simple, close-up compositions that still portray the experience of a place, but focus more on the interaction and relationship between the figures. These prints explore a kind of arrival, a sense of belonging through the small pleasures shared in everyday life.
I make ceramic work out of porcelain, with a focus on drinking vessels. I fire the pieces in a soda or a wood kiln to give them a delicate flashing of reds, oranges, blues and greens. My work is presented in groupings, mostly on wooden trays. The ritual of its use becomes a central experience, and the playful sets I create entice the users to interact with each other and the tray. Good craftsmanship, ergonomics, and visual balance are important in my work.
