Celebrating True North Square

Keynote Speaker: Jim Ludlow, President of True North Development

For 142 years The Chamber has been bringing people together to build and celebrate our community. The tradition continues with our second annual Celebrate Winnipeg event on June 3 – a coming together around the one thing we all have in common: our love and passion for Winnipeg.

President, True North Real Estate Development Limited (2015 – present)
President & CEO, True North Sports & Entertainment Limited; Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club (1999 – 2014)

Jim has served as President and CEO of True North Sports & Entertainment Limited from the inception of the company in 1999.  Over a period of 15 years under Jim’s leadership the MTS Centre grew to become one of the busiest concert venues in North America, served as the home of the AHL’s Manitoba Moose and in 2011 became the home of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets when True North acquired the Atlanta Thrashers.  In 2014 in an effort to advance and develop a variety of commercial and real estate opportunities for True North and its investee companies, expand the business footprint of True North and add to Winnipeg’s physical and business landscape Jim took on the role of President of True North Real Estate Development Limited.

Recently, True North Real Estate Development Limited announced the most ambitious mixed use real estate development in Winnipeg’s history.  True North Square is a $400 million private sector lead development, with a footprint of over one million square feet which will redefine the “Heart of the City”.  True North Square has already attracted high profile tenants, and its four towers include flexible class A office space, residences, retail shops, heated underground parking, the Sutton Place Hotel and public plaza spaces.

Born in Winnipeg, Jim attended the U of M, earning a B.A., and then attended Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, where he received his law degree.  Prior to joining True North in 1999 Jim was a partner at a senior Western Canadian law-firm, and previous to that was General Counsel and Vice-President of Corporate Development to a leading Canadian venture-capital firm in Calgary.

Jim is involved in the Winnipeg and broader community, having served on the boards of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Alpine Canada.  For many years Jim also served as chair of the Board of CentreVenture, the City of Winnipeg’s downtown development agency.  In 2009 Jim was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 1CFFTS at 17 Wing, Winnipeg and he is currently on the boards of Travel Manitoba and the 2017 Canada Summer Games.  In 2011 Jim was the recipient of the national award for Business Achievement at the Western General Counsel Awards in Vancouver.  Jim is the proud father of four children, Cedric, Charlie, Fiona and Amanda.
