BOLD Breakfast – Competitiveness
Join us for a BOLD Breakfast—an informal panel discussion to bolster discussion on issues important to Winnipeg. With the next federal election slated for October 2015, now is our opportunity to advance a BOLD Canada agenda that will reestablish strategic Canadian global leadership.
Last year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual world competitiveness index ranked Canada 15th out of 144, our lowest level since 2006. Canada had slipped one position from 2013 as the country’s lagging innovation puts it at a disadvantage to its international peers, according to WEF. Canada is seen as missing the mark on the more sophisticated measures that separate the most competitive countries from the pack – research and development investment, technological innovation, regulatory burden, taxation and post-secondary education. What BOLD action is required to reestablish the Canadian competitive advantage? What forces need to be mobilized to transform discussion into concrete action?
The topic is: Own the Boardroom! Sharpening Canada’s Competitive Edge Globally, and our panelists are:
Kelvin Shepherd, President of MTS
Chris Johnson, Co-founder of Startup Winnipeg
Scott Sissons, Partner at KPMG
Each of the panelists will have five minutes to present their thoughts on the topic, culminating with a suggested bold idea for competitiveness in Canada. Following the panel segment, audience members will have an opportunity to ask the panelists questions and contribute their own bold ideas and thoughts.
The discussion and ideas from the event will be captured to assist The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce prepare recommendations for a BOLD Canada platform in the upcoming federal election.
