On October 21, The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce will present its 2022 Mayoral Candidates Debate, moderated by Maralee Caruso, CTV News Anchor and featuring the frontrunners in the campaign, as identified by independent polling, factoring in the margin of error.
The candidates invited are:
- Glen Murray
- Scott Gillingham
- Shaun Loney
- Kevin Klein
- Robert-Falcon Ouellette
During the debate, we will dive deeper into the issues, as our audience wants to understand the differing points of view of those who are most likely to become Mayor. This approach is not logistically feasible with 11 candidates on stage if robust discussion is the desired outcome.
The October 21 Mayoral Candidates Debate is but one of the many activities The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce has and is undertaking during the 2022 civic election.
Winnipeg Chamber representatives invited all Mayoral candidates to meet with us to discuss our election platform – as informed and developed by the business community. Read more about our civic election playbook here. Some candidates did not respond to our invitations. Of those that did, newsletter articles and other content is being shared with our membership and the general public via social media. The Chamber also published a full newspaper editorial in August outlining our civic election platform recommendations, making the document accessible online to the public in the interest of openness and transparency.
Further, all Mayoral candidates were invited, at no cost, to attend our September 27th State of the Downtown luncheon, to meet and talk with hundreds of community and business leaders on a critical issue in this election. Again, not all candidates accepted the invitation.
The Winnipeg Chamber debate is one of many community and organization-led events during the civic election. We encourage all voters to engage in these numerous opportunities, to inform themselves in determining the best choice on October 26.
